If you have staff that are operating under a contract for services on licensed premises the likelihood, is they will require a frontline SIA license in order to do so in accordance with the Private Security Act (2001). A licensed premise means a venue that has a license to do one or both of selling alcohol for consumption on the premises or providing regulated entertainment (including some sports events).
Whilst you don’t necessarily need a license to operate ‘in-house’ security or if you’re operating as direct staff under a ground safety certificate, we always recommend completing the training for a wider understanding of laws, legislation, and best practice.

Following changes to the national occupational standards in 2021, a full up-skill activity was launched nationally to introduce new themes to the license-linked SIA qualifications considering industry change and emerging trends.
When a member of your team comes to renew their SIA license having previous achieved their qualification and recently held a license, they will be required to complete a top-up programme to be eligible to re-apply.

To apply for a frontline public space surveillance license, you must hold the Level 2 Award for CCTV operators. Whilst you don’t require the award for operating ‘in-house’ CCTV, we recommend this course for anybody who comes into contact with CCTV footage or operates CCTV systems on a regular basis throughout their job roles. If you are actively monitoring members of the public, identifying particular individuals or reviewing footage to identify individuals to carry out investigations, you will need to obtain a frontline Public Space surveillance license.
For CCTV training, we may request access to one of your control rooms to carry out the practical assessment elements of the course. We are happy to sign and data agreements as we understand we may be encountering sensitive information whilst operating in the control room. The three-day course can be delivered online and includes a range of mock exams and course resources issued well in advance for pre-course reading, giving candidates the best chance to achieve.
